Trauma-Informed counselors utilize a strengths based, flexible approach that acknowledges the prevalence and complexity of trauma among all people. Awareness of trauma and its impacts on functioning informs therapeutic practices and treatment planning.
Interpersonal Processing (IPP): Considers the impact of past and current relationship issues on client functioning. Utilizes attachment and communication theories to assist clients in disrupting unhelpful relationship patterns to develop more supportive social networks to enhance overall well-being.
Multi-Culturally Responsive: An inclusive therapeutic approach that considers the influence of individual and Societal concerns on client functioning. Multiculturally competent counselors are also more equipped to service clients from backgrounds different from their own.
